When: Friday, August 27th, 2010
What time: 6:00pm - 10:00pm
How much: $25 for the first child, $15 for each additional child.
What food will be served: Pizza, plain cheese and pepperoni, juice drinks and water (no soda!) and cookies. ***note*** if your child has any food allergies please let us know****
What games will be played: Dodgeball and more Dodgeball!
What movie will be played: Something rated G for the little kids or PG for the older kids. Nothing scary or anything like that.
What video games will be played: kids games, nothing crazy.

Ok I think that covers it. Please also note that all regular classes are canceled tomorrow night for the party.

Danny Ives and staff at Ivey League MMA

Eric earned his blue belt after two years of training with no prior experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and No-Gi grappling. He has competed at competitions across the region and won at several events including Submission Only US Grappling and has also fought and won in MMA. He also trains in muay thai kickboxing and mixed martial arts. Coach Danny realized it was Eric’s time after repeated demonstrations by Eric of his talents in BJJ. He has come a long way and is deserving of this great honor, congratulations again! We also thank the Team Lloyd Irvin students who are excellent training partners for Eric and all the instructors that have helped him on his journey.

This past Sunday, Ivey League held another fun-filled family gathering out on the Eastern Shore. We all gobbled down a serious number of Maryland blue crabs, and sampled a nice assortment of food brought by Ivey Leaguers. Eric Davis and his family hosted our event that started in the afternoon and lasted into the late hours of the night (for those that weren’t too full to keep eating!).

The beautiful setting was perfect for the Ivey League kids who attended to play all day long. Mr. Danny had a great time dunking the kids into the kiddy pool, passing the football, and playing tag. Ms. Teresa tried her hand at volleyball and has determined she will stick to MMA. Thankfully several parents and Mr. Danny assisted her as she played with the kids. Our grown-up kids held a fierce horseshoes competition with Mr. Mike and Mr. Karl coming out as the grand champions. In the words of little ninja Deuce, “This is the best party ever!”

Plan to join us for our next family gathering in September when we will celebrate together and have another Grand Prize Referral Drawing.

In the first round of the Gi division he defeated a tough opponent that had beaten him earlier in the day in no-gi.  The match was back and forth, with Paul defending his back from several chokes before reversing the position, passing the guard, and applying a textbook armbar for the hard fought victory.  In the bronze medal match he won via an Americana (paintbrush) from side control.   The bronze medal in no-gi was won on points, with Paul winning 6-2 on two separate guard passes.

As a intense competitor Paul isn’t satisfied with bronze, but realizes that it takes time to adjust to competitions and that he is steadily improving.  He will take these matches, learn from them, and come back stronger next time.

First, we have to give a big congrats to Ivey League’s own Cammie Jurkowski. She took 3rd place at the MMA Nationals tournament this past weekend in Hampton, VA. She won her first fight by ref stoppage in the second round, then lost a split decision to another Team Lloyd Irvin female in the semi’s (there were 8 females in the division). In the end, it was all Lloyd Irvin females who placed in the top three of the 135 lb weight class. This is a major event, with competitors coming from all over the world to compete and the skill level is very high.

Overall, TLI was in top form with many guys and gals making it to the finals and winning their divisions. This speaks volumes about the high level training we have going on. (Cammie came to us a year ago with no training whatsoever.) It would be hard for me to write about everyone who competed but some of the stand outs were: Danny Mahoney, he was amazing! Sijara Eubanks was also sharp as a knife. Bebe was getting after it! (her match in the semi finals should be showed to all who need to know what “heart” is in a fight.) And there were more, but once again, I could write for hours about it! Congrats to all that got out there and put it on the line, you make TLI proud!

Also in Hampton, Ivey League’s head Coach, Danny Ives, got a chance to work with Muay Thai Kickboxing legend Rob Kaman. Mr. Kaman taught a seminar on Sunday which covered many areas of stand up striking. Danny said it was a great seminar and he learned a ton. Below is a pic of Danny and Mr. Kaman.

Competitors from Camp Springs, Crazy 88 and Ivey League MMA all made the trip and brought home many many medals (and some stayed to get some beach time, so a tan too) Here are the results from the Severna Park location (Ivey League):
